a moral center of pure awesomeness and probably ripe strawberries.

so it's been a long time since the last post. a lot has happened in the past few weeks. mostly it's been the lack of wireless internet after moving into the new place (read: living room). i've turned on my computer three times since moving and blogging on another computer feels traitorous.

i am disgusted with myself currently.

it's about 8 o'clock right now. i'm sitting here watching star wars vi, the '97 remastered version, both disappointed and relieved. it's been over a decade since this version came out, but i've never seen the remastered movies until now so there's that. not forcing you to read my late-in-the-game post. anyway!

i'm now convinced that if lucas had the technology he had making star wars that he had remastering it, it wouldn't have been the praised, beloved series that garnished so many oscars and fans. (actually the latter would probably still be true. many people still lack good judgement and a tasty moral center!)

either way, watching the remastered version is disappointing. there's so much unnecessarily hokey crap that doesn't do anything to make the movie better. lame gags and weird for weirds sake aliens. like the singer in jabba's club in this movie. am i crazy? the special effects the studio added to the actual landscapes were great, but all the add on creatures just don't fit in with the rest of the film quality which breaks the willing suspension of disbelief. i am unimpressed and cringing. give me the non-tinkered version any time over this, please.

till next time....

dirt and whiskey. cheap thrills. up chuck loader.

so heres to two weeks of successful (debatable) composition assignments. now in 2 popular dimensions!

"that dirty, buzzing relationship meant something else to you"

apologies for the poor lighting, cluttered floor, and dog. sorry dad, things haven't changed since i moved.

"define flying with eagles, please"
this was the seven hour sculpture-thon from tuesday. i'd love to work under the same conditions all the time, but it's probably not healthy. working on this piece opened my eyes to "the process" in ways i can't really explain, but i hope to keep with me and apply for the rest of my life. mind-altering, indeed. apologies for that vague blip of information. do with it what you will.

and that's all for now. tomorrow is reserved for buying packing tape + actually packing, sleeping in, and drinking a fine beverage or two.

the placeholder entry.

the end.
so, as promised, here is the after picture of the 1984 composition.

lost a good soldier.

and then week...5's croquis

these are from week 6. my teacher made photocopies of these, which felt good.

not the most exciting post, i know. i got sick yesterday and have been trying to recover. last nights fungus may or may not have helped me get better, but it did produce my favorite composition piece so far. which says something. what exactly i'm not sure. i'll post the pictures up tomorrow. that and maybe some other stuff....

nyquil kicking in...

binary solo

hey you three! it's been a minute since the last post but here's what i've been working on lately. it's all homework assignments, same as usual. soon i'll put up more sketches. there's a few worth posting.

last weeks fashion illustration 2 composition. unfortunately since the picture was taken the figure, due to a wire-frame oversight, has fallen apart. maybe i'll upload some post-critique pictures sometime in the [tomorrow] future.

week 5: watercolor face chart. simple and efficient.

first weeks homework assignment was faces in marker. five-heads, loppy-eyes, and big hair runs rampant in my blood, apparently.

also week 1. large faces [with too much lipstick + 'tude.]

ultra hip!

so in true treasure island style, the power went off last night right in the middle of an awesome degrassi: tng episode. time for some art via candlelight.

i'd post a picture of what went down that night, but it's a birthday present and i don't want to ruin the surprise over the internet. i'll post pics in the next few days.

for now here's the homework from last weeks croquis design + fabric rendering class:

"the latin(a) kings"

[edit: credit to jon for the dog idea]

and last weeks fashion illustration 2 composition assignment in two parts.

sexperiments

surprise! new drawings.

i was caught up in a weird mood last night to try something completely different. i went through my iphoto stash and started 'caricaturing'. first attempts always require critique, but i was pretty happy with what happened. can't wait to get a scanner, though....

a self portrait. no real facial features made things easy.

the one and only tennessee matt. these actually go in reverse order of creation, so this was really the first.

i need a lot more practice, especially with inking, but i'm going to ride this coaster out and see what happens.

it's been a while and i've got no tape.

hey you two!

i'm a pretty lazy, unproductive person naturally, and ever since the sims 2 came in the mail it's been even more so. BUT! here's some doodles that occurred in between life in front on the computer.

guess who this is and you get the prize

this asian man kept staring at me while i was drawing on the plane. it was uncomfortable and stifling.

MASTADON! sort of.

haven't we been through this already?

a little pen + acrylic on watercolor paper. 9 1/2" x 13"

this could be the shortest project to date. [hopefully it doesn't show.] i finished in about four days from concept to completion. which is cool. followthrough is a trait that doesn't come naturally, so this is a milestone in a way. you can see all my mistakes if you click on the picture!

i feel pretty good about this new medium + style experiment. here's to something better in the future.

my job has some perks

so working as a nude model is pretty cool sometimes.

[edit! haha not me but the exact same pose.]

[oh, the blonde.]
this pose was form a photo shoot. photo shoots are awesome.

[both pieces are done by zack zdrale. he's got a solo show going on at the john pence gallery until the end of the month, i think. both of these pieces are in the show, along with a bunch of my co-workers.]

and that's all. i'm currently working on another [hopefully] sweet watercolor + ink piece right now. with any luck and no distractions it'll be done in a few days.

pen + ink

these are a couple of pen + ink pieces i did after hours of flipping through a book of heinrich kley sketches. he's such a badass and i will never be at his level, but it's a good bar to reach for. dammit.

that's pretty much it for now. i've got the next few days off so between eating, sleeping, and scrabulous there shall be posts a-plenty.

sketchbook round 1

so i was flipping through my sketchbook tonight and was disappointed. i'm running out of room for more sketches while the ones in there are... horrendous. that and the camera isn't as sharp as i thought it would be when i bought it. there's a few more that i'll upload at some point within the next few days.

eh...

a quick study form one of those fancy clothing magazines that always get sent to me. they're worth something after all.

jesus christ vampire hunter.

autographed pictures of classy hos -or- self-portrait in the fourth dimension

acrylic and ink on skateboard. diy hanging (hey hey hey).

so this was my first skateboard piece (i think.... memory fails me lately). it's still one of my favorite/better pieces. not much else to say about that.

arthur's taking a nap right now

mixed media on broken skateboard. diy hanging apparatus.

the swiss is biting.

dinner is served.

so, apparently the walgreens near the terminal doesn't sell bread. i have just eaten the saddest sandwich and this is a good start for my blog-reer.

more later.
